“Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation.”

ADF Memorial Scholarship Program

  • New York, U.S.A.

The Amadou Diallo Foundation (ADF) is pleased to offer scholarship aid to deserving students. Students of all genders, race, religion, and immigration status are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given, but not limited to, students of African or African American descent and/or recent immigrants from Africa (to the United States). We are particularly interested in supporting the efforts of students who are ineligible to apply for Federal and/or New York State financial aid, or students who would otherwise not be able to continue their education without additional financial aid.

In honor of Amadou’s passion for Information Technology (IT), the ADF has special interest in supporting students who are IT majors, but students who are pursuing other majors (or studies) will also be considered. Incoming and first-year students who have not yet declared their major are also encouraged to apply.

Because of the overwhelming number of applications, the Foundation must limit funds to the following eligible individuals: undergraduate students currently enrolled in or who have been admitted to Bronx Community College (CUNY), Stella and Charles Guttman Community College (CUNY), The Bakeli Program (Guinea), and other approved partner programs.

Incoming students from U.S. high schools (USA only) should have an average of 75 or higher.

Current Guttman students who apply should have a minimum g.p.a. of 2.5 for consideration. Guttman applicants should be aware that they must attend Guttman on a full-time basis and carry a minimum of 12 credits if they receive the scholarship. All of the Guttman applicants who are deemed finalists are required to sit for an interview, conducted electronically via Zoom (or teleconference).
Because of the enormous demand, we are asking all applicants to provide additional information about themselves including their academic background, current research and/or work, future academic plans, or plans for the future. To apply for an ADF scholarship, use the form below to submit an essay telling us about your academic record, sharing your desired career goals post graduation, and explaining your reason for requesting support. Your essay should approximately be 250 words (minimum) to 500 words (maximum). The Foundation will be making its decisions based on student need and based on scholastic merit demonstrated.
If your application is accepted for further review, we will contact you and ask that you furnish copies of your academic records to assure your eligibility for scholarship aid. If you are granted an award, the award will be administered through your school and its Scholarship Office or Office of Financial Aid.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE ALSO CONSIDER SAVING YOUR ESSAY ON YOUR OWN PERSONAL MEMORY STICK, OR STORAGE DEVICES, AND/OR COMPUTER BEFORE YOU SUBMIT IT TO US THROUGH OUR WEBSITE. If an applicant has questions that your school has not already answered or if you need additional information about this scholarship, you may email Dr. Linda Merians at Linda@amadoudiallofoundation.org (please make sure the title or subject of your email is: ADF Memorial Scholarship Questions, thank you.)
